My uncle’s wife is schizophrenic. She’s been confined to hospital stays for a better part of 18 years. They’ve been married for 25 years.

She refuses medicine because she doesn’t believe anything’s wrong with her. Add the fact that they seem to have no effect. She’s barely mobile because of some kind of atrophy in her leg that she refuses to allow the doctors to check.

He’s tried bringing her home but she relapses shortly after. At this point, it’s hard for me to have hope that she’s ever coming home for things to be “normal.”

Is it wrong that I want him to leave? I’m reluctant to believe that he’s staying for love but rather for guilt, appearances, and religion. His kids barely had a mom around and they’re almost all college-aged.

I’m struggling with where to stand on this but I just want him to be happy.
