Right. Nor did I mention anything about race except to say that I don't agree that the author's statement is racist. What it is is ignorant because in the sentence prior, he speaks of poorer countries and follows with Africa. Africa is not a country. It would have made a world of a difference if the phrase "some countries Africa" were used. Why does this matter even when Africa does consists of a majority of the top 25 poorest countries? It matters because, intentionally or unintentionally, repeatedly using Haiti and Africa as a whole as the poster child of poverty promotes an attitude of hopelessness for a group of people judged by their GDP.
